What is Amazon SES?

Amazon SES sends email using SMTP, which is the most common email protocol on the internet.

Let’s deep dive into how to use SES with Thunderbird:

Amazon SES Setup

Step 1:  Sign in into the AWS console and search for Amazon SES in the search bar and select the service. Click on Create Identity.

Step 2:  Select Email Address, enter the sender email address to get it verified & click on Create Identity.

Step 3:  Verification email is sent to the mentioned mail-id

• Once the email-id is verified the status will be verified

Step 4:  Once the email address is verified select the Account Dashboard from the left panel and click on Create SMTP Credentials.

• Click on Create

Thunderbird Setup

Step 1:  Download thunderbird app from https://www.thunderbird.net/.

Step 2:  Add the SMTP Server details created in Step 4.

Step 3:  Add the Account details verified in Step 3.

Step 4:  Provide the below details :

• Mention the Full name & Email address
• Click on Continue & Done

Click on Finish

Note : Password Authentication is done for the account before Finish.

Step 5:  Account has been set up successfully, now add the recipient’s list in the Address Book.

• Create a New List of recipients and add the email addresses. Click on OK

• Select the list created and click on Write

• Provide the required information and click on Provide the SMTP Password when prompted.

Step 6:  Emails will be delivered successfully.
