The Rural Development Organization faced the challenge of migrating their on-premises MSSQL database, particularly the registration modules, to a PostgreSQL RDS server on AWS Cloud, aiming to reduce costs, eliminate vendor dependency, and ensure portability, extensibility, and flexibility while handling complex queries and ensuring a smooth transition with enhanced scalability, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
• Implemented best practices for a smooth transition to a cloud-native PostgreSQL environment with data and application integrity.
• VPN ensures encrypted, secure communication between on-premises and Amazon VPC for safe data migration.
• Bastion host provides secure access for administrators to private AWS resources during migration.
• AWS SCT automates MSSQL to PostgreSQL schema conversion and compatibility checks.
• AWS DMS enables near-zero-downtime migration with continuous data replication and full-load, CDC, and incremental migration.
• Tuned Amazon RDS instance for optimal post-migration workload management.
• AWS IAM ensures secure, role-based access to resources during and after migration.
Migrated 6,757 tables and 3,289 stored procedures with AWS DMS, ensuring minimal disruption, enhanced system performance, and a scalable, secure cloud-native architecture.
