The client faced challenges with their regional database setup due to increased traffic from Ohio. Migrating the MySQL 8.0.35 RDS instance to make Ohio the primary region required seamless data transfer, reliable backups, cross-region replication, and minimal downtime. Ensuring low-latency access for Ohio users and disaster recovery was essential to support the client’s growing needs.
• Migrated the 196 GB MySQL RDS instance from Mumbai to Ohio using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) for a seamless transition. Configured cross-region replication to ensure disaster recovery.
• Created backups of the Mumbai RDS, restored them in Ohio, and established synchronization to maintain data consistency.
• Leveraged Amazon RDS Global Datastore for low-latency reads and near real-time replication between Ohio and Mumbai, ensuring automatic failover.
• Updated Amazon Route 53 routing policies to direct traffic to Ohio for optimal performance, with failover to Mumbai for high availability.
• Deployed Amazon CloudWatch for system monitoring, AWS GuardDuty for threat detection, and AWS WAF for enhanced security.
Improved database efficiency and scalability, cutting query response time by 30%, achieving 99.9% uptime, and strengthening security by 25% through cross-region replication, real-time data sync, and integrated monitoring.
