High System Availability
Enhanced Operational Efficiency
They currently run applications on an on-premises Apache web server with Oracle EE as the database. For data ingestion and ETL, they use Informatica with Sybase IQ for data warehousing, totaling 190TB. To modernize their 17-year-old legacy applications, they plan to adopt purpose-built databases and utilize AWS’s fully managed, serverless services. They aim to focus on application development without infrastructure concerns and establish streamlined DevOps practices for efficient and reliable continuous integration, delivery, and deployment.
• Used AWS CodeCommit for storing the application source code to ensure version control and collaborative development capabilities.
• Created AWS CodePipeline for the CI process to automate the build, test, and deploy stages of the application, defining source, build, and deploy stages.
• Used Amazon ECR to store Docker images, enabling secure storage and easy retrieval of container images for deployment.
• In the CI process, integrated SonarQube for static code analysis to ensure code quality, Twistlock (Prisma Cloud) for container security scanning, and AWS Signer to sign Docker images, ensuring their authenticity and integrity before deployment.
• For the CD process, FluxCD was used to deploy in the Amazon EKS cluster, configuring it to watch Amazon ECR and deploy images to appropriate environments based on tags (dev, test, pre-prod, and prod).
• Created custom node groups to organize nodes based on their hardware or software configurations, grouping nodes with similar characteristics for better workload management.
• Utilized node topology to schedule pods on nodes using labels, taints, and tolerations, controlling which pods can be scheduled on which nodes.
Successfully established DevOps infrastructure on schedule, ensured high system availability, streamlined workflows to enhance operational efficiency, and implemented comprehensive security measures for full compliance with industry standards.
